Clinical Eeg Review

Clinical EEG review is the systematic interpretation of electroencephalography recordings to assess brain electrical activity and identify patterns relevant to neurological care. Scalp electrodes detect voltage fluctuations produced by synchronized neuronal activity, while signal processing and visual analysis help distinguish characteristic waveforms from artifacts, noise, and normal background rhythms. In bioengineering, clinical EEG review connects sensor design, biopotential measurement, and computational analysis with patient evaluation. It supports the assessment of seizures, epilepsy, sleep-related abnormalities, and diffuse brain dysfunction, while also informing automated detection tools and improved recording systems. Accurate review depends on electrode placement, recording conditions, and careful clinical interpretation.

EEG is a non-invasive technique that can measure brain activity. The neural activity generates electrical signals that are recorded by EEG electrodes placed on the scalp. When an individual is engaged in performing a cognitive task, brain activity changes and these changes can be recorded on the EEG graph. Therefore, it is a powerful tool for cognitive scientist aiming to better understand the neural correlates associated with different aspects of cognition, which will ultimately help them...

Simultaneous EEG Monitoring During Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation

2013

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that has shown initial therapeutic effects in several neurological conditions. The main mechanism underlying these therapeutic effects is the modulation of cortical excitability. Therefore, online monitoring of cortical excitability would help guide stimulation parameters and optimize its therapeutic effects. In the present article we review the use of a novel device that combines simultaneous tDCS and...
