Cumulative Totals

Cumulative totals are running sums that combine each value in a sequence with all preceding values, showing how a quantity changes progressively over time or across observations. They are calculated by adding the next data point to the previous cumulative total, so the resulting sequence preserves the original order and reflects accumulated change; in mathematical notation, the nth cumulative total is the sum of the first n terms. Cumulative totals help analyze frequency distributions, financial transactions, measurements, and experimental results. They support trend identification, comparison between intervals, and graphical displays such as cumulative frequency curves, making it easier to interpret overall growth and locate thresholds or percentiles.

Cumulative Frequency Distribution

2023

A cumulative frequency distribution is another type of frequency distribution. Instead of reporting how many data values fall in some classes, it reports how many data values are contained in either that class or any class to its left. Technically, it means the sum of frequencies of the class and all the classes below it in a frequency distribution. A cumulative frequency is calculated by adding the frequency of each class lower than the corresponding class interval or category. In general, a...

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA Concrete and asphalt are by far the most common construction materials used today. Concrete is a composite material consisting of cement, water, air, coarse aggregate, and fine aggregates. Fine aggregates are typically sands and coarse aggregates are natural or crushed rocks. Chemical admixtures to modify certain specific properties are also commonly used (i.e., superplasticizers to make the...

A technique for performing intravital microscopy of the inguinal lymph node (LN) is outlined. Such technique allows for real-time, in vivo study of the lymph node microvasculature and structure both during homeostasis and infection. This technique can be adapted to cell trafficking studies and to other lymph node sites.
