Dicom Viewer

A DICOM viewer is software that opens, organizes, and displays medical images stored in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format, supporting clinical interpretation and research. It reads image data and associated metadata, such as patient, study, and acquisition details, then provides tools including zooming, contrast adjustment, windowing, measurements, and multiplanar reconstruction for cross-sectional studies. In medicine, DICOM viewers help clinicians review radiographs, CT scans, MRI examinations, ultrasound images, and other studies across compatible systems. They also support image comparison, communication, education, and research workflows while preserving standardized information needed for accurate interpretation and interoperability.

Source: Flatz, W. H. et al. In Vivo Morphometric Analysis of Human Cranial Nerves Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Menière's Disease Ears and Normal Hearing Ears. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the use of MRI to analyze cranial nerve morphology in the ears of patients suffering from a chronic inner ear disorder. It outlines the steps for performing a high magnetic field MRI scan on the patient, reconstructing the high-resolution 3D cross-sectional images of the cranial nerves,...

Multianimal Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Tumor Measurements in Pancreatic Cancer Mouse Models

2026

This protocol uses a multichamber bed for parallel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of up to four animals to detect pancreatic adenocarcinoma tumors in genetically engineered mouse models. This multianimal MRI protocol is fast and cost-effective for detecting and measuring tumors, facilitating animal selection for preclinical studies and longitudinal monitoring of tumor growth.

The goal of this study is to use magnetic resonance venography with long-circulating gadolinium-based contrast agent and direct thrombus imaging for quantitative evaluation of DVT volume in a multicenter, clinical trial setting. Inter- and intra-observer variability assessments were conducted, and reproducibility of the protocol was determined.

A Standardized Protocol for Functional Motor Mapping Using Navigated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

2026

Here, we describe a standardized protocol for motor mapping using nTMS combined with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-based reconstruction of the corticospinal tract (CST). The protocol is reproducible, clinically feasible, and readily integrable into routine clinical workflows, providing a robust and valuable framework for motor pathway assessment, neuroplasticity research, and rehabilitation planning.
