Eat Thickness

EAT thickness, or epicardial adipose tissue thickness, is an imaging-based measure of the fat layer surrounding the heart and a potential marker of cardiometabolic health. This tissue lies directly beside the myocardium and coronary arteries, where its metabolic activity can influence local inflammation, vascular function, and myocardial performance; increased thickness is often associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease risk. Clinicians and researchers assess EAT thickness using cardiac imaging, particularly echocardiography, to support cardiovascular risk stratification and investigate links between visceral fat, coronary atherosclerosis, and cardiac dysfunction. The measure may also help evaluate how lifestyle or medical interventions affect cardiometabolic risk.
