Perivascular Flow Probe

A perivascular flow probe is a biomedical sensor placed around a blood vessel to measure blood flow in real time, supporting assessment of cardiovascular function and hemodynamics. In a typical ultrasonic design, paired transducers send sound pulses upstream and downstream through the vessel; the difference in transit time reflects the velocity and volume of blood moving through the vessel. Researchers and clinicians use these probes to monitor changes in arterial or venous flow during physiological experiments, surgery, and evaluation of vascular therapies. The resulting measurements help link blood-flow dynamics with tissue perfusion, organ function, and cardiovascular disease.

Isolation of Perivascular Multipotent Precursor Cell Populations from Human Cardiac Tissue

Human cardiac tissue harbours multipotent perivascular precursor cell populations that may be suitable for myocardial regeneration. The technique described here allows for the simultaneous isolation and purification of two multipotent stromal cell populations associated with native blood vessels, i.e. CD146+CD34- pericytes and CD34+CD146- adventitial cells, from the human myocardium.

Human perivascular stem cells (PSCs) are a novel stem cell class for skeletal tissue regeneration similar to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). PSCs can be isolated by FACS (fluorescence activated cell sorting) from adipose tissue procured during standard liposuction procedures, then combined with an osteoinductive scaffold to achieve bone formation in vivo.

Positioning Laser Doppler Probe: A Technique to Implant Probe Over Middle Cerebral Artery for Blood Flow Measurement in Murine Model

2025

This video describes the surgical procedure to immobilize the laser Doppler probe over the murine brain's middle cerebral artery, or MCA. The probe helps to measure the blood flow in the brain's microvasculature by measuring the Doppler shift caused due to the motion of red blood cells within the artery.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Perivascular Spaces in the Human Brain During a Small Vessel Stroke

Perivascular spaces (PVS) are fluid-filled spaces around the brain blood vessels involved in fluid drainage. To examine alterations in PVS during a small vessel stroke, perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the basal ganglia region in the patient’s brain. The imaging protocol includes the T2-weighted fast spin echo and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequences.T2-weighted imaging enhances the contrast between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-filled PVS and surrounding tissue.FLAIR...
