Primary Suture

Primary suture is a surgical wound-closure method that brings separated tissue edges together soon after injury or an operation, supporting healing by primary intention. Using a needle and suture material, clinicians place stitches through the wound margins to restore alignment, reduce dead space, and distribute tension while maintaining tissue contact. This technique is used for appropriately clean wounds and surgical incisions when the tissues can be safely approximated. Proper suture selection and placement can promote efficient healing, limit scarring, and reduce complications, making primary suture a fundamental skill in surgery, emergency medicine, and procedural care.

2025

The integrated technique described in this protocol achieves real-time biliary mapping via indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence, minimally invasive stone clearance under direct visualization, and secure primary duct repair (6-0 PDS), eliminating T-tube drainage.

Here, we develop and present a T-tube and intrabiliary stent-free technique utilizing dual-lens visualization (via laparoscope and choledochoscope) combined with laparoscopic ultrasonography (LUS) to perform primary choledochal suture.

Q Suture Technique: A Suturing Technique to Reduce Gap Formation and Increase Tensile Strength in Tendon Repair

In this video, we demonstrate suturing techniques — core suture and Q suture — to repair the foot flexor tendon in an ex vivo porcine model. Q sutures enhance the strength of the core suture in tendon repair and decrease gapping at the tendon repair site.

Sutures of the Skull

The human skull is composed of several bones that come together to protect the brain and support the structures of the face. The junctions where these bones meet are called sutures. Sutures are immobile joints between adjacent bones of the skull. The narrow gap between the bones is filled with dense, fibrous connective tissue that unites the bones. The long sutures located between the skull bones are not straight but instead follow irregular, tightly twisting paths. These twisting lines tightly...

Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration Followed by Primary Suture Using a Modified Bile Duct Incision

Cholecystolithiasis with common bile duct stones is a common disease; however, traditional common bile duct exploration has its own limitations. We propose a modified micro incision for laparoscopic common bile duct exploration aimed at reducing complication rates.
