Reader Proteins

Reader proteins are molecular components that recognize specific chemical marks on DNA-associated proteins or chromatin, helping cells interpret epigenetic information and regulate gene activity. Their specialized binding domains, such as bromodomains that recognize acetylated lysine or chromodomains that bind methylated lysine, attach to modified histones and recruit enzymes or regulatory complexes that alter chromatin structure and transcription. In medicine, reader proteins are important in cancer, inflammation, and developmental disorders because abnormal recognition of epigenetic marks can disrupt gene expression. Studying these proteins supports biomarker development and the design of selective inhibitors that may correct disease-associated transcriptional programs.

Introduction to the Microplate Reader

2023

The microplate reader is a multimodal instrument that allows for a variety of experiments to be performed and measured simultaneously. Microplate readers can make absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measurements. Multiwell plates are integral to the microplate reader and allow for many experiments to be performed at once. Regardless of the assay type, experiments on the plate reader utilize a standard curve to determine the experimental values. This curve uses samples of known...
