Transoral Approach

The transoral approach is a medical and surgical technique that accesses anatomical structures through the mouth, avoiding or reducing external incisions in the face or neck. Clinicians use specialized instruments, endoscopes, or robotic systems to navigate the oral cavity and reach targets in the throat, upper airway, cervical spine, or nearby tissues, while managing visualization, anesthesia, airway protection, and infection control. Depending on the procedure, this approach can reduce visible scarring and may support faster recovery, but it requires careful patient selection and expertise because restricted working space and potential injury to oral or pharyngeal structures can complicate treatment.

2025

Here, we present a protocol to resect benign infratemporal fossa tumors via an endoscopic-assisted transoral lateral molar approach with low-temperature plasma ablation and intraoperative mandibular nerve monitoring. This minimally invasive technique prioritizes anatomical preservation, functional recovery, and avoidance of external scarring, demonstrating feasibility for well-demarcated lesions ≤4 cm in diameter.
