Tumor Cell Proportion

Tumor cell proportion is the percentage of cells in a tissue sample that are malignant, a key measure in cancer diagnosis and research. Pathologists estimate it by examining stained sections and distinguishing tumor cells from normal stromal, inflammatory, or necrotic components; this assessment may be reported for the whole specimen or the area selected for analysis. Tumor cell proportion helps determine whether a biopsy adequately represents a lesion and whether molecular tests have enough tumor-derived DNA or RNA for reliable results. It also supports tumor grading, treatment planning, biomarker interpretation, and evaluation of sample quality in clinical and translational medicine.

Sample Proportion and Population Proportion

2023

Collecting samples or responses from an entire population takes significant time and effort, so a researcher collects responses from only a sample of that population. Suppose a study needs to collect information about a specific mobile application. After sample collection, the researcher analyzes the data and discovers that most individuals in the sample use that specific mobile application. The sample proportion measures the number of individuals in a sample who either use or don't use the...
