Aldol condensation and Claisen condensation are two carbonyl reactions that begin in a similar way but end with different products. Aldol condensation can happen with aldehydes or ketones and is acid- or base-catalyzed. Claisen condensation is a base-promoted reaction between ester molecules that forms a β-ketoester.
