Light Reactions

Description

Light Reaction

Plants use sunlight to create energy through photosynthesis, the process that captures sunlight and converts it into chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH. These energy molecules are then used in the next stage of photosynthesis, the Calvin cycle, to produce glucose. The light reaction is the first st...

Transcript

The light reaction is the first stage of photosynthesis. This takes place in the organelles of the plant cell known as the chloroplasts.

If one looks inside the chloroplasts, one can find flattened sacs of membranes called thylakoids.

These membranes contain a special pigment called chlorophyll, which absorbs the sunlight.
