A triple integral gives the total accumulation of a quantity over a three-dimensional region using a function of three variables.Consider a solid metal block shaped like a rectangular box. At each point inside the block, the function gives the material&#x2019;s density. The total mass is the accumulation of that density throughout the entire solid.To calculate this mass, the block is divided into many sub-boxes, each with a small volume. A sample point in each sub-box is used to estimate the density in that region. Multiplying this density by the small volume gives an approximate mass for that sub-box.Adding the masses of all the sub-boxes gives an approximate total mass called a triple Riemann sum. As the block is divided into smaller and smaller sub-boxes, the triple Riemann sum approaches the triple integral.A triple integral can also be evaluated as an iterated integral, where accumulation happens one variable at a time. Fubini&#x2019;s Theorem states that for a continuous function over a bounded region, with well-defined limits, the order of integration can be changed, and each order gives the same value.

Triple integrals help find the total value of a function across a three-dimensional region. They are often used to calculate volume, mass, and other physical quantities that change from place to place. The idea is to split a solid region into many small rectangular boxes, evaluate the function in each box, and add the results.

As the boxes get smaller, the triple Riemann sum gets closer to the exact triple integral. In rectangular coordinates, the integral is written as an iterated integral, such as \(\iiint_B f(x,y,z)\,dV = \int_a^b \int_c^d \int_e^h f(x,y,z)\,dz\,dy\,dx\). The order can also be changed, depending on how the accumulation is set up.

The integral is evaluated one variable at a time. For example, integrating with respect to \(z\) first adds up values in the \(z\)-direction before moving to the remaining variables. Integrating with respect to \(x\) or \(y\) first gives a different way to sweep through the same three-dimensional region.

For a continuous function on a rectangular box, Fubini’s Theorem says the order of integration can be changed without changing the value of the integral. That flexibility matters because some orders are easier to work with than others. The final accumulated quantity stays the same, but the steps can become simpler.

A common application is finding mass when density changes from point to point. If a metal block has density \(\rho(x,y,z)\), then its total mass is \(M=\iiint_B \rho(x,y,z)\,dV\). Each small volume element adds mass equal to density times volume, and adding all of those pieces gives the mass of the whole block.
