有機分子を構成する最も一般的な元素である炭素、水素、酸素、窒素、硫黄、リンは、生態系内では限られた量しか利用できないため、これらの栄養素は生態系の生物学的および非生物学的構成要素を介してリサイクルされる必要があります。
生物地球化学的循環と分解
生物を構成する水、炭素、窒素、硫黄、リンなどの物質は、生態系の中で限られた量しか存在せず、保存やリサイクルが必要です。この物質は、様々な化学的形態をとり、大気中、陸地や地下、水域環境で長時間過ごすことになります。生態系における栄養素の分解とリサイクルの重要な要素は分解であり、温度、水分、栄養素の有無に影響されます。例えば、熱帯雨林では、気温が低く季節的な気候の温帯環境に比べて、有機物の分解が非常に速くなります。
人間の活動
人間の活動もまた、生物地球化学サイクルのバランスを変える上で大きな役割を果たす。例えば、2011年、エリー湖では観測史上最大の有害藻類の大発生がありました。これは、長年にわたる農業によるリンの添加と、地域の気象パターンの変化によるものです。過剰な栄養レベルは富栄養化と呼ばれ、有毒な2種類のシアノ細菌、MicrocystisとAnabaenaの成長を促進しました。
