At the fundamental level, all matter is composed of molecules made up of different chemical elements.
Elements are pure substances that constitute only one type of atom.
The periodic table is a standard reference in chemistry wherein the elements are arranged according to their increasing atomic number.
The specific symbol used for an element is often the first one or two letters of its name. The symbols can also come from an element's Latin or German name. For example, sodium is abbreviated as Na for Natrium, and iron is abbreviated as Fe for Ferrum.
96% of biological matter is predominantly composed of four elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen.
