The arch of the aorta, which continues from the ascending aorta, begins at the sternal angle and ends between the T4 and T5 vertebrae on the left side.
The arch branches into the brachiocephalic, left common carotid and left subclavian artery.
The brachiocephalic artery divides into the right common carotid artery, which supplies blood to the right side of the neck, head, and brain, and the right subclavian artery, which supplies blood to the right upper limb.
The brachial artery, a continuation of the right subclavian artery present in the right upper arm, and its branch, the radial artery, are clinically important for blood pressure and pulse measurement, respectively.
The left common carotid artery ascends in the neck and divides into the external and internal carotid arteries, supplying blood to the left side of the neck and head.
The left subclavian artery located at the distal end of the arch mainly supplies blood to the left upper limb and has a similar course and function as the right subclavian artery.
