Collection Overview

Periodontium is the complex of specialized tissues surrounding natural teeth, it is composed by gum, alveolar bone, periodontal ligament cementum; when missing teeth are substituted by dental implants the anatomy of the supporting complex is modified due to the lack of periodontal ligament and cementum. The health of teeth and implants is strongly correlated to the state of supporting tissues.

Periodontal and peri-implant tissues may be affected by several diseases, they can be plaque-correlated or not plaque correlated. The disorders plaque correlated are, depending on the extension of the inflammatory infiltrate, gingivitis, and periodontitis in case of periodontium and peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis in case of tissues surrounding implants.

The aims of this Collection are to explore the main clinic, laboratory and radiographic methods useful to determine the health of periodontal and peri-implant tissues and to suggest novel approaches able to contribute the knowledge about the condition of teeth and implants supporting complexes.
