Positron emission tomography (PET) is a nuclear medical technology that allows in vivo imaging and quantification of specific targets, as well as molecular and cellular processes in the living body. Radioactive tracers are crucial for PET and are composed of biologically active molecules (such as small molecular compounds, peptides, antibodies, and proteins) and positron emission radioactive nuclides. However, for most radioactive tracers, it is not easy to efficiently label radioactive nuclides to a specific compound efficiently in the beginning of the tracer development.
The study of radio-labelling reactions is key to promote the research and production of radiotracers, and to expand the scope of PET scans in clinical applications.
This Method Collections aims to bring together a wide range of techniques that have been developed for radiolabelling for small molecular compounds, peptides, antibodies, and proteins with 11C, 18F, 64Cu, 68Ga, 89Zr, etc. In addition, the in vitro and in vivo evaluations of the PET radiotracers are also important for their clinical translation.
Examples of methods to be included in this collection are: design and synthesis of intermediates for radio-labelling precursors; radio-labelling of 18F in the alkyl side chain of small molecules; radio-labelling of 18F in electron-deficient/donate aromatic ring of small molecules; radio-labelling of metal radio-nuclide with peptides, antibodies and proteins; LogP determination of radio-tracers; bio-distribution of radio-tracers; autoradiography of a radio-tracer (or additionally, in combination with immuno-histochemistry staining for the validation of specific targets); static/dynamic PET imaging and data reconstruction.
