The CIBERONC Liquid Biopsy and Biomarker Working Module.

The Consorcio Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red, M.P, (CIBER) is a public research consortium of Biomedicine and Health Sciences in Spain. CIBERONC is the oncology specialist division of CIBER, formed by 50 national research groups working in cancer. CIBERONC aims to promote excellence in oncology research and incorporate new findings into clinical practice. The CIBERONC Liquid Biopsy and Biomarker Working Module is a multidisciplinary group formed by 12 young translational researchers, both clinicians and basic scientists, who are experts in liquid biopsy and its use as a clinical tool, all actively participating in translational research. They have representatives that cover the major solid tumor types (gastrointestinal, lung, and breast cancers), hematological tumors, and also rare tumor types. The main objective of the group is to establish a platform for the standardization and promotion of the Liquid Biopsy within Oncology Translational Research by promoting collaborative research projects to advance the implementation of the use of the liquid biopsy field in cancer management. They serve as a hub to provide information about laboratories and researchers working in the Liquid Biopsy field in Spain and internationally. Furthermore, they have developed standardized liquid biopsy protocols, from sample collection, processing, and storage to applications such as the analysis of cfDNA, CTC, exosomes, and soluble proteins. Their website (https://biopsia-liquida.ciberonc.es/) provides information about the most recent translational research, which aims to promote the understanding of the liquid biopsy applications for both clinicians and patients.

Collection Overview

This collection will focus on flexible and standard protocols for sample collection, processing, and storage that can be used in most centers interested in working in liquid biopsies, such as blood, saliva, stool, and other corporal fluids.

Standard protocols for commonly used liquid biopsy applications include but are not limited to: circulating free DNA (cfDNA), circulating tumor cells (CTC), circulating RNAs, exosomes, proteins, and metabolomics.,
