Heart development requires fine coordination of multiple progenitor cells. Such a complex morphogenetic process is error-prone, with congenital heart defects affecting at least 0.8% of new-borns. Pioneer methods such as single-cell sequencing, embryo manipulation, and organoid culture are reshaping the way we study cardiac progenitors and offer a unique opportunity to understand their role in heart disease. Despite that, detailed protocols to such methods are often difficult to access, as they require instructions beyond the technical information provided in scientific articles. Hence, gathering a collection that fully captures the know-how of these protocols with step-by-step visual guidance would facilitate the study of this progenitor cell population. Advanced techniques such as single-cell epigenomics, live imaging, and organoid culture are currently only used in a few specialized laboratories. Therefore, to promote the reproducible use of these and other novel experimental techniques, this Methods Collection aims to provide standardized protocols to improve and enhance the study of cardiovascular progenitor cells.
