Dr. Rongbo Li received his PhD Degree in Developmental Biology from Fudan university, China. He then joined the lab of Prof. Xin Sun in University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of California San Diego for postdoctoral training. Dr. Li’s research focuses on understanding important developmental mechanisms regulating the early lung development and the pathogenesis of lung diseases, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, asthma, and pulmonary fibrosis.

Collection Overview

The main physiological function of the lungs is to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide between air and blood. At the same time, the lungs are also exposed to pathogens and inhaled particles from the external environment which can cause lung injury. Lung disease are now a leading cause of death in the world, especially now the COVID-19 pandemic has caused so much devastation, understanding the lung development and regenerative responses after injury is crucial for development of new therapeutic strategies to treat lung diseases. In this collection, we will focus on lung injury models which were used in lung stem cells studies and lung repair after injury, such as bleomycin induced lung fibrosis, influenza virus or lipopolysaccharide (LPS) infectious lung injury models. These lung injury models will help our understanding of lung development and regeneration process after injury, as well as the molecular pathology underlying pulmonary diseases.
