Yan Bao
Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Agriculture and Biology
Dr. Bao’s group mainly focuses on understanding the trade-offs between plant growth and stress tolerance from an organelle level, with a particular interest in autophagy and unfolded protein response (UPR). In 2014, after acquiring a doctoral degree in genetics from Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Science, he moved to the United States for postdoctoral training at Iowa State University and Michigan State University. In December 2020, Dr. Bao established his independent research group as an associate professor (tenure-track) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in the School of Agriculture and Biology.

Xiang Yu
Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology
Dr. Yu received his PhD at the Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology (SIPPE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2014, and continued his training as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Biology, University of Pennsylvania from 2014 August to 2021 January. Now he is a group leader at the School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The Yu lab focuses on studying the molecular mechanism of RNA transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation and their contribution to the plant adaption to multiple environmental stresses, using molecular biology, omics-technology, and bioinformatics.
Organelles are compartmentalized sub-cellular structures for particular functions to be performed in a cell. Constantly challenged by various environmental stresses, and for survival, plants have to coordinate different organelles for maintaining cellular homeostasis. Dynamic regulations of organelles include transcriptional reprogramming, epigenetic remodeling, metabolic revising, organelle relocation, morphology reforming, and beyond. In addition, membraneless condensates like stress granules and protein phase separation have also been revealed in plant responses to stressful stimuli. Advanced technologies (high-throughput sequencing, high-performance mass spectrometry, high-resolution microscopy, etc.) have been developed and optimized during the last decade, and benefiting from these cutting-edge approaches, great progress has been achieved in studying organelle dynamics in plant-environment interactions. In this method collection, different critical assays regarding organelle dynamics will be recorded and filmed with a focus on the plant model Arabidopsis thaliana, but these methods may also be applied in crops and horticultural plants.
