Dr. Biwen Peng (MD, PhD) is currently a Professor in the Department of Physiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Wuhan University. Her research interests include neurophysiology, neuroimmune, and ion channels-related disorders. Her laboratory’s research aims to understand the behavioral, neural, and glia-based neuroimmune mechanism of ion-channel related neurological disorders. She advocates a multidisciplinary approach, including molecular biology and electrophysiology, to investigate the role of membrane receptors and ion channels, especially the transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, voltage-gated potassium channels, on seizures, and epilepsy in the immature brain.

Collection Overview

Cellular, tissue, and animal-based models are utilized in research in the neurosciences that intend to contribute to the treatment and inhibition of electrophysiological functional connective, effective and cognitive disorders in human beings, such as epilepsy, HIBD, depression, and anxiety. Cellular/tissue methods and experiments involving animal models are complementary to each other and are important to develop a complete understanding of neurophysiology and neuroimmunology. Many such protocols would benefit from a demonstration of the various technique-sensitive methods used in this important field.

This Methods Collection invites articles describing primary cellular culture and brain tissue culture of neurons, astrocytes, and microglia that are widely used for neuroscience research, as well as animal experiments involving EEG recording, CSF collection, and behavioral neuroscience.
