Carmen Coxon is a senior scientist with specialist knowledge in the area of thrombosis and haemostasis. Having completed a PhD in cardiac regeneration at the University of Reading in 2006 she worked in academia for ten years at the universities of Oxford and Bristol on target and drug discovery, with an emphasis on novel antiplatelets and Ig superfamily receptors. She moved to the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control in 2017 where she worked as a research fellow on the development of biological standards for clinical tests in the area of rare bleeding disorders, as well as working with colleagues and collaborators to investigate the effect of reduction/oxidation on clinically relevant biomolecules.

Collection Overview

It is known that the biological sciences are suffering from a crisis of reproducibility. Biological scientists are rarely educated in basic metrological principles and taught how to apply them to their day-to-day work processes to ensure experiments are not only reproducible but also harmonized with the rest of the community. This series will showcase examples of how biological standards are used in a range of experiments, and authors are encouraged to submit examples from across the sector, from bioinformatics pipelines and activity assays to clinical laboratory tests and cell and animal models. By understanding and applying these working practices, you can ensure your experiments are truly reproducible at a global level and thoroughly rigorous.
