Shubing Zhang
Central South University, School of Life Sciences, Department of Cell Biology
Professor Shubing Zhang is the Director of the Department of Cell Biology, School of Life Sciences, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China. Dr. Zhang mainly studied the mechanism of initiation and progression of breast, pancreatic, liver, and prostate cancers. By devising new biomaterials, he has significantly contributed to novel drug discovery, especially for cancer treatment. He also researched the establishment and application of stem cell technology, isolation, and extraction of effective ingredients from natural drugs and their pharmacological effects.

Durairaj Karthick Rajan
Central South University, School of Life Sciences, Department of Cell Biology
Dr. Durairaj Karthick Rajan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Cell Biology, Central South University, Changsha, China. Dr. Durairaj Karthick Rajan received his PhD from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, India. Before his PhD, he evaluated the role of RB-1 gene mutations in the South Indian Population. After his PhD, he studied the part of naturally derived alkaloids in regulating signaling pathways involved in cancer cell progression in lung cancer. Dr. Durairaj Karthick Rajan is presently working with Prof. Zhang Shubing’s research team as a postdoctoral researcher, and he is actively involved in studying the role of HDACs in regulating apoptosis, cell cycle, and DNA repair mechanisms.
Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the world. Studies in cancer biology reveal the cellular, molecular, and biochemical interactions within the tumor microenvironment. Various genetic and epigenetic factors are closely linked with cell metabolism, cell division, cellular signaling, and migration. Cancer treatment is still a mystery and a challenging task for cancer biologists and clinical oncologists.
Historically, biomaterials have significantly contributed to novel drug discovery, especially for cancer treatment. Biomaterials with unique properties have achieved tremendous efficacy in clinical trials. In cancer biology, biomaterials have become a valuable approach for their therapeutic potential and their controlled release of drugs in the tumor environment. This Methods Collection aims to provide significant insights into biomaterials and cancer research methods.
