Her ongoing project involves studying the role of mRNA capping enzyme.

Collection Overview

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) have gained significant attention in the post-genomic sequencing era after the advancement in sequencing and bioinformatics technology. These RNAs, classified as ‘junk’ earlier, play crucial roles in various cellular processes, including the development of disorders.

LncRNAs have the ability to form complex secondary structures, which in turn produce multiple surfaces that can interact with various macromolecules. Unlike mRNAs, tissue-specific expressions of lncRNAs are often observed. In addition, these RNAs can bind with other targets, like DNA and RNA, and thus control their biochemical properties.

Through their multiple complex secondary structures, they can exert high affinity and specificity towards the target molecules. Tissue-specific expression and high-precision interaction with the target molecules have often rendered them excellent choices for biomarkers or therapeutic tools.

Ongoing research in bioinformatics, next-gen sequencing, and imaging has revealed the role of lncRNAs in various life domains. Still, many novel lncRNAs have yet to be characterized. This Methods Collection intends to focus on the different methods utilized or will be employed to characterize the function of lncRNAs in different organisms.
