Neurotechnology for interfacing with the brain is advancing at a rapid pace. There is a growing body of both proprietary and open-source solutions for modulating and/or decoding neural activity that has seen adoption by academic researchers, hobbyist communities, and for-profit organizations. However, implementing and troubleshooting neural interfaces still requires an understanding of neurobiology, electrical engineering, computer science, and materials engineering. The goal of this collection is to provide a detailed understanding of how the hardware, software, and biology of neural interfaces combine to successfully enable neuromodulation and/or neural decoding. Readers of this collection will be able to gain deeper knowledge of current methods and systems for stimulating and modulating neural activity using invasive, non-invasive, animal, and human models. In addition to focusing on the physical interface between electronics and the brain, this collection will also include methods for interpreting and processing signals collected by neural interfaces as well as strategies for tuning parameters of neurostimulation.
