Institute of Biology of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (IBENS) in Paris

Dr. Samira Benadda currently works as head of the core imaging facility at the Institute of Biology of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (IBENS) in Paris. She obtained her PhD in immunology at the University of Paris Cité, France. Her doctoral project focused on the trafficking of the Fc receptor. She investigated the role of the endosomal system in FcR function. Her work has opened new ways of research to understand new therapeutic targets in monoclonal antibodies. In 2021, Samira joined Adrian Liston’s lab as a Visiting Scientist in Cambridge (UK) to understand the role of microglia in neuro-inflammatory disorders and brain injuries. She studied the role of microglia in live brain slices with two-photon microscopy. As a head of the core imaging facility, Dr Benadda trains, assists, and advises researchers in using state-of-the-art photonic fluorescence microscopy techniques. Her research interests include the development of new technologies to democratize super-resolution using expansion microscopy to study different types of samples.

Collection Overview

Fluorescence photonic microscopy is a powerful technology that allows the visualization and analysis of structure and dynamic processes. In recent years, photonic microscopy fluorescence techniques have been developed in many fields. It offers innovative equipment, allowing the observation of single molecules up to the scale of an organism. Life Sciences have seen many techniques developed to gain information and more resolution about 2D, 3D, live, or fixed samples. These techniques have allowed us to answer a large biological question in different samples. This Methods Collection will bring together a range of in vivo, ex-vivo imaging fluorescence techniques, development in optical microscopy, sample preparation techniques to increase resolution (e.g., Clearing, ExM), and image analysis in the field of life sciences.
