Raúl Sampieri-Cabrera
Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Dr. Sampieri-Cabrera serves as the Principal Investigator at the Department of Physiology within the Faculty of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Additionally, he leads the Learning Sciences Laboratory and oversees the Prospective Research Office on Health/Disease Relationships at the Center for Complexity Sciences, UNAM. He is a member of Mexico's National System of Researchers and served as Associate Editor of the Directory of Open Access Journals from 2019 to 2023, contributing to the editing and review process of 63 journals. His research encompasses several areas, including the behavioral determinants of health among young adults, the cultivation of socioemotional skills and their influence on the mental well-being of medical students, and the examination of learning and instructional sciences within health science disciplines. His laboratory focuses on translational research spanning from cellular and molecular physiology to system physiology and metabolic integration, with an emphasis on behavioral correlations.

Claudia Gómez Acevedo
Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, National Autonomous University of Mexico
Dr. Claudia Gómez Acevedo earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the Metropolitan Autonomous University, followed by her PhD in Biomedical Science from the Faculty of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Over the past 31 years, she has been actively involved in teaching and research within the Pharmacology Department at UNAM. She is a member of the National System of Investigative Research (level 1) and holds memberships in various Scientific Associations. She has authored more than 25 articles. For the last two decades, her research has been primarily dedicated to understanding the behavioral and cognitive changes induced by ischemic stroke in mice and exploring the potential therapeutic effects of drugs in modifying these alterations. Recently, her focus has shifted to investigating the role of neuroinflammation in drug-induced reward behavior and exploring the use of repurposed drugs to mitigate addictive behaviors. The Behavioral Pharmacology Laboratory is dedicated to researching the efficacy of neuroprotective drugs in addressing brain pathologies such as ischemia and addiction.
The present Methods Collection focuses on biomedical research models and methods for the study of complex health problems, a topic of paramount importance given the growing need to address multifactorial diseases and pandemics that affect the global population. This collection aims to compile the most advanced methods and modern approaches in the field of biomedical research, thereby facilitating the exchange of knowledge and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.
By doing so, the collection will support researchers in designing and executing more effective studies. It will also drive the development of innovative solutions for the most pressing public health challenges, ultimately improving health outcomes globally. The collection is oriented toward models and methods in animals for studying eating disorders, cerebral and cardiac infarction, hypertension, metabolic diseases, obesity, and other conditions.
