University of Malta, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

Prof. Arif Rochman is a seasoned researcher specializing in polymer engineering, with a particular emphasis on additive manufacturing over the past decade. He holds a Dipl-Ing. (FH) in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Munich, earned in 2000. His interest in long fiber reinforced plastics led him to pursue a Master's in Polymer Engineering at Aalen University, Germany, which he completed in 2002. He furthered his academic journey by obtaining a PhD in Polymer Engineering from Queen's University Belfast (UK) in July 2010. Since 2009, Prof. Rochman has been a faculty member in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Malta. As a coordinator and principal investigator, he currently leads five funded research projects investigating the interplay between additive manufacturing processes and material properties, as well as exploring novel additive manufacturing methods.

Collection Overview

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a revolutionary technology that has witnessed unprecedented growth in recent years, demonstrating its potential across various industries. AM has transformed the manufacturing landscape from rapid prototyping to the production of complex components. This Methods Collection invites original research contributions that delve into the latest advancements, challenges, and promising future trends in AM.

We encourage submissions covering a wide range of topics, including but not limited to novel materials and their characterization, process optimization and control, advanced design methodologies, quality assurance and certification, cost-effective AM solutions, and the integration of AM into broader manufacturing systems. Additionally, we welcome research on the applications of AM in diverse industrial sectors, such as aerospace, biomedical, automotive, energy, and consumer goods.

This collection aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in AM and inspire future research directions by showcasing the most recent research findings. Ultimately, it will contribute to the advancement of AM technologies and their widespread adoption across diverse sectors.
