Collection Overview

Vision impairment and blindness continue to pose significant global health challenges despite advances in diagnostics, treatments, and preventive strategies. Ocular conditions, from refractive errors to complex neuro-ophthalmic disorders, demand innovative and integrative approaches for effective management. However, vital research and methodologies often remain scattered, limiting accessibility to clinicians and researchers. This challenge underscores the pressing need for a shared repository to bridge these gaps.

The timing for consolidation is critical amid rising myopia prevalence, an aging population prone to glaucoma and macular degeneration, and limited resources in underserved areas. Simultaneously, rapid advancements in neuro-visual science, tele-optometry, and precision diagnostics offer transformative potential. Innovations such as advanced imaging technologies, artificial intelligence, and behavioral insights are driving a new era in eye care, blending basic research with clinical applications.

This Methods Collection aims to:

  • Standardize protocols for ocular assessments, treatments, and vision therapies.
  • Broaden access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations for research and clinical progress.
  • Promote evidence-based strategies to prevent and manage ocular conditions.

By uniting advancements like scleral lenses for corneal rehabilitation, AI-powered retinal diagnostics, and neuro-adaptive therapies, this initiative seeks to create a comprehensive resource for optometry and ophthalmology professionals worldwide.

We invite contributions from scientists, clinicians, and public health experts to inspire innovation, collaboration, and progress in vision science. Together, we can pave the way for sustainable and equitable eye care solutions, advancing the future of global eye health.
