István Puskás holds a PhD in chemistry from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest, specializing in pharmaceutical research and colloid chemistry. He also completed studies in industrial and intellectual property law at the Hungarian Patent Office. Since 2007, he has worked at CycloLab Cyclodextrin R&D Ltd., where he focuses on the development of cyclodextrin-based formulations and technological innovations, particularly for small-volume injections. He has taught cyclodextrin technology at Budapest Technical University and ELTE and has served as a tutor for Instrumental Investigation of Nanomedicines and Cleanroom Facilities at Semmelweis University. Dr. Puskás is the author or co-author of 35 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 23 published patents or patent applications, and four book chapters.

Collection Overview

This Topical Collection showcases research across the full breadth of cyclodextrin chemistry and its wide-ranging applications. As cyclodextrins continue to gain importance in materials science, biotechnology, and medicine, a detailed understanding of their production, functionalization, and behavior in complex systems has become increasingly valuable. The collection presents studies on cyclodextrin production and enzymology, covering the synthesis and characterization of novel derivatives; state-of-the-art methods for analyzing host–guest complexation; and emerging advances in nanotechnology, self-assembly, drug and gene/RNA delivery, and therapeutic or diagnostic applications.

The goal is to provide the research community with a comprehensive resource that unites cutting-edge findings across disciplines. By integrating contributions relevant to industrial applications, such as food, cosmetics, and environmental technologies, with both fundamental and applied research, the collection aims to foster collaboration, stimulate innovation, and support continued advancement in cyclodextrin science. Moreover, presenting visually supported studies highlights the scientific and practical significance of this rapidly evolving field.
