Dr. Claudia Calcagno holds an MD from the University of Genova (Italy) and a PhD in Computational Biology from New York University/Mount Sinai Graduate School of Biological Sciences (New York, NY, USA). Her research focus is quantitative, non-invasive pre-clinical imaging of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Over the years Dr. Calcagno has developed a comprehensive multi-modality imaging framework, based primarily on multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multi-tracer positron emission tomography (PET), to probe salient aspects of cardiovascular inflammation and atherosclerosis burden, including in the context of pre-clinical drug efficacy trials using surrogate imaging endpoints. Her developments are not only available on pre-clinical imaging scanners to investigate small animal models of disease, such as mice and rats, but have also been translated for use on clinical scanners to study larger animals, such as rabbits, swine, and non-human primates.
