Dr. Reena Singh is a Developmental and Stem Cell Biologist working as a Senior Research Fellow in the department of Physiology, School of Medical Sciences, The University of Sydney, Australia. She was awarded PhD in Molecular Medicine from Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS), School of Excellence, Germany. She received coveted MD PhD scholarship being 1st rank holder from India and 4th overall among 20 final selected candidates by Hannover Medical School. Her focus of research is cardiovascular diseases and type 1 diabetes. She has worked with renowned developmental and stem cell biologists Prof. Andreas Kispert (Hannover Medical School) and Prof. Richard P. Harvey (Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute) during her PhD and postdoctoral tenure.
Her expertise with mouse developmental genetics, transcriptional regulation, transgenesis, expression profiling, differential gene regulation, and directed differentiation of stem cells has enabled her to identify the indispensable role of genetic regulators and signaling pathways involved in organogenesis and regeneration. She has published several significant highly cited research articles in the field. As a senior Research Fellow working with Prof. Peter Thorn, head of physiology, The University of Sydney; she is developing cell replacement therapy for people living with type 1 diabetes. She is working towards understanding the effect of beta cell niche on its structure and function and modifying the microenvironment to augment stem cell derived-beta cell function.
