Serapion Pyrpassopoulos received his PhD in Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences from the National Technical University of Athens (Greece) in 2006. His graduate work focused on experimental thermodynamics of protein folding in the lab of Dr. George Nounesis at the National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos (Greece). In 2007, he joined as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. E. Michael Ostap at the University of Pennsylvania (USA) where he remains as a Senior Research Investigator. He uses optical tweezers and fluorescence microscopy to study the mechanochemistry of cytoskeletal molecular motors and their interaction with lipid membranes in vitro.
