Dr. Pietro Cacialli is a maître assistant in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. He obtained his PhD in model organisms in biomedical and veterinary research, from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy in 2016. He then went on to receive his postdoctoral fellow at the University of Geneva for four and a half years before to become maître assistant in 2021. His research interests are in stem cell biology and neural regeneration. In his PhD study, Dr. Cacialli studied the role of neurotrophic factors and their receptors in neurogenic stem cell niche after a traumatic brain injury in zebrafish. In addition, during his postdoc (in laboratory of Pr. Julien Bertrand), to extend his study of the stem cell niche to another, better characterized system in the zebrafish: the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) niche. He identified the role of new genes that regulate the proliferation of HSCs in zebrafish embryo and conserved during human fetal liver development.
