Research in Dr. Andersen’s laboratory is focused on the development and functions of individual cells in roots, with particular emphasis on endodermal passage cells. The Andersen group works with the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, as well as Lotus japonicus, a legume undergoing symbiotic relationships with fungi and bacteria. His laboratory employs state-of-the-art techniques within molecular biology, genetics, physiology, and confocal imaging. He joined the Department of Plant-Microbe interactions, Cologne, as an independent Max Planck group leader in 2019, after spending 5 years at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland as an independent Marie Curie research fellow and a postdoctoral researcher. Before moving to Lausanne in 2014, he completed his doctoral studies with Barbara Ann Halkier at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
