Dr. Harinder Singh is a research faculty at SVKM’s NMIMS, Sunandan Divatia School of Science and is currently working in the area of stress biology, enzyme engineering, and microbiome. He has previously worked in the area of stress biology using cyanobacterial and bacterial model systems. These studies were mainly targeted to explore and understand the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying different stress responses such as oxidative stress, desiccation and radiation stress. The work has been extended to cold shock response, which is a currently active project of his group. Dr. Singh has also worked on enzyme biotransformation, where novel enzymes were explored for asymmetric chiral synthesis. Enzyme engineering approach was also utilized to meet these objectives. On similar lines, he is currently working on using in silico bioprospecting and enzyme engineering approach to obtain better enzyme candidates. Another active study of his group is in the area of microbiome, where metagenomics approach is being used to explore the human microbiome and its correlations with health conditions.
