Gloria Brea-Calvo is a researcher at the Andalusian Centre of Developmental Biology (CABD), Lecturer in Cell Biology at the University Pablo de Olavide (Seville, Spain) and a member of the CIBERER Network (ISCIII). She received her PhD in 2008 with a work on the transcriptional regulation of the genes involved in Coenzyme Q (CoQ) biosynthesis she developed in the group of Prof. Plácido Navas. Then she moved to the Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MBU, MRC-University of Cambridge, UK) supported by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, where she joined Dr Ian Holt group and worked in the mtDNA maintenance. Later she joined the Mitochondrial Medicine Group led by Prof Massimo Zeviani at the MBU, where she transited to a more translational research of CoQ biology. Back in Spain, she is building her lab with a broad interest in CoQ biology during development in health and disease. She is the founder of the Mitowomen initiative, a platform for supporting and making more visible women working in the mitochondrial field.
