Dr. Ravi Tharakan is an Intramural Research Training Award Postdoctoral Fellow in the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health. His research focuses on micropeptide translation and protein translation regulation in aging cells and tissues. Dr. Tharakan obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Doctorate in Cellular and Molecular Medicine from Johns Hopkins University. His PhD work focused on developing ribosome profiling and proteomics methods for discovering micropeptides in various biological systems, including cell lines, mouse tissue, and HIV-1 virus. In his postdoctoral research in the biology of aging, he works in characterization of novel micropeptides associated with aging in human skeletal muscle.
