Barry Fine is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center and attending cardiologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Research in Dr. Fine’s laboratory focuses combining advances in tissue engineering and genetics to gain deeper insight into heart disease. His fields of interest include drug discovery for rare cardiac disease, novel signal transduction pathways in cardiomyocyte survival and modeling defects in early cardiogenesis. He is one of the co-directors of the NIH funded Tissue Engineering Resource Consortium (www.nextgenterc.com), delivering tissue engineering and stem cell technology to a variety of international collaborations. He completed an MD PhD at Columbia University with graduate work centered on the PI3K/PTEN pathway under Ramon Parsons. This was followed by internal medicine and cardiology training at New York Hospital and a biomedical engineering post-doctoral fellowship under Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic.
