Sandra Ward is an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry & Biochemistry department at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Cal Poly is a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI) that values a “Learn by Doing” philosophy and strongly supports research experiences for undergraduate students. Dr. Ward leads a group of undergraduate researchers to develop stimuli-responsive material for drug delivery applications. In particular, the group has been developing stimuli-responsive supramolecular amphiphiles as the building blocks for nanocarriers and crosslinkers for hydrogels.

Dr. Ward received her BSc in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo in 2007 and her PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Calgary in 2012. She completed her post-doctoral research at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Before joining Cal Poly, she spent two years as a Visiting Assistant at the University of Puget Sound.
