Dr. Robert Godin established his independent Solar Energy Conversion and Spectroscopy (SolarSpec) group in 2018 at the Okanagan campus of The University of British Columbia in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, where he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry. Robert has fostered an interest in photochemistry since the start of his higher education career, first working on the optical properties of quantum dots, then using single molecule spectroscopy to study biological oxidation, and then firmly moving into the field of solar energy conversion. The SolarSpec group develops spectroelectrochemical and time-resolved spectroscopic tools to better understand semiconductors, especially carbon nitrides, and catalysts for sustainable energy and fuels production. With advanced capabilities that span the visible, near IR and mid IR spectral ranges, the lab has unique possibilities of investigating electrocatalysts and photocatalysts under working conditions and over a wide temporal range. He has published almost 40 research papers, cited over 1,900 times.
