Dr. Martijn Hoes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Genetics at the Maastricht University Medical Center and in the Department of Cardiology in the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands. His research is focused on the effects of pregnancy on the cardiovascular system and the development of in vitro models for cardiac diseases. The overall aim is to improve our mechanistic understanding of the pathogenesis of heart failure. He focuses on mechanisms of effects of pregnancy-related hormones on the heart and vasculature, metabolic reprogramming, and cardiac function. Various methods are used to validate phenotypes include human stem cell-derived cardiac differentiation, tissue engineering, metabolic screening, multi-omics analyses.
