Dr. Antonio Recchiuti is Assistant Professor in Clinical Pathology at the Department of Medical, Oral, and Biotechnological Science and at the Center for Advanced Studies and Technology, University of Chieti, Italy.

Dr. Recchiuti earned his MS Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and his PhD at the University of Chieti. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital – Harvard Medical school with Charles N Serhan, who discovered endogenous pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPM) resolvins, lipoxins, protectins, and maresins that are critical in the resolution of inflammation. As a postdoc, Dr. Recchiuti identified the receptors binding the endogenous SPM resolvin D1, his signaling, and modes of action in human and mouse systems (PNAS 2010, FASEB J 2011, Am J Pathol 2012). He then moved back to the University of Chieti, where he has been a Group Leader since 2014.

The broad mission of his research team is to define bioactivities of SPM within the inflammatory and immune response and to promote the development of innovative therapies for the treatment of inflammation-based human pathologies, including cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease. He has received several awards, including the ERC Marie Curie Grant, the Novartis Prize for Young Pharmacologists, and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Spring Research Excellence Award.

His research is funded by grants from the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Telethon Foundation, and the Italian Ministry of Health.
