Dr. Antony McNamee is a research fellow at Menzies Health Institute Queensland, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia. His research focuses on blood physiology and red cell biophysics, with particular emphasis on detrimental changes caused by life-support systems and artificial organs. Dr. McNamee’s PhD investigated sublethal trauma to erythrocytes and shear-mediated cellular modifications, seeking reclassification of hemocompatibility standards that define ‘tolerable’ blood damage. Dr. McNamee has a unique hybrid biomedical and engineering approach to his research, with expert skillsets in medical device testing, cardiovascular physiology, medical laboratory science, and allied engineering with capacity to invent novel technologies unavailable elsewhere. Dr. McNamee has a particular interest in developing low-cost rigs to enable access to advanced biophysical inspection techniques of blood and is committed to assisting the development of the next generation of artificial organs while innovating novel health solutions that will directly improve the quality of life of patients around the world.
