Dr. Juraj Szavits-Nossan is a Research Fellow in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh. He received his BSc and PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Zagreb. Dr. Szavits-Nossan is strongly committed to helping biology using tools of mathematics and physics. As a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, he worked on kinetic modeling of protein self-assembly into amyloid fibrils. Recently he has completed a three-year project "Deciphering rules for optimal protein biosynthesis" funded by the Early Career Fellowship program from the Leverhulme Trust. His current research seeks to understand how is gene expression orchestrated and regulated in time. He develops biophysical models of transcription and translation in order to infer the dynamics of gene expression from a large body of next-generation sequencing and fluorescence imaging data.
