Dr. Turksen is a stem cell biologist who trained in the labs of Jane Aubin [PhD, U. of Toronto, Osteoblast Lineage] and Elaine Fuchs [Postdoc, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, U. of Chicago, Epidermal Lineage]. He was a Senior Scientist in the Regenerative Medicine Program at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. He and his group worked on the epidermal lineage, the identity and commitment of interfollicular epidermal stem cells, and Claudins' role in epidermal lineages. Dr. Turksen has retired from active research but continues to be very active in various editorial roles, including as an Editor-in-Chief of journals, most recently Tissue Barriers, and multiple book series. In this latter capacity, he has edited more than 100 volumes for SpringerNature. In addition, he has organized five international stem cell meetings since 2012.
