Dr. Michael Schulz obtained his B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and continued his research focusing on molecular biologic sciences. After finishing his M. Sc with a thesis about pigment cell development in zebrafish, he decided to move to a more translational research area, joining the junior group leader Dr. Lisa Sevenich in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Within his PhD, Michael extensively focused on the tumor microenvironment (TME) in mouse models of brain metastasis (BrM), studying different aspects of this unique and highly dynamic TME with a specific focus on tumor-associated macrophages, variation of the immune composition over time, and in response to standard of care therapy (whole-brain radiotherapy). Michael examines various aspects of the tumor-stroma in BrM and the interaction of different brain-resident and recruited cell types within his current research.
