Dr. Csaba Forro is a Postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on developing devices to interface brain tissue. With a background in theoretical physics acquired during his Master’s Degree at EPFL, he switched to experimental neuroscience for his PhD degree at ETH. He is currently on a Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Global Fellowship between Stanford University and Forschungszentrum Juelich.

His main areas of interest involve uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of learning and memory in biological neural networks and develop novel electronics to extract better insights from neuronal activity. To do so, he leverages his computational expertise to fuse machine-learning and automated design to push boundaries of neural devices in terms of their biomimetism, compatibility with cell tissue, and gain orders of magnitude in bandwidth and signal quality.

He joins JoVE to improve the sharing and reproducibility of fabrication methods for biomedical devices by leveraging the much richer video format as opposed to text-based protocols.
