Dr Sarah Shafik is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Research School of Biology at The Australian National University (ANU). Dr Shafik obtained her PhD from ANU, during which she used the Xenopus oocyte heterologous expression system to characterize malaria transporter proteins and their interactions with antimalarial drugs and natural substrates. Dr Shafik is interested in applying her expertise of the Xenopus oocyte system to other biological processes involving transporter proteins, and is currently using this system to characterize a number of plant transporters and their role in nutrient acquisition.
